Love in New York City

14 February 2010 3 Comments

Love in New York City? Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing, and for city-dwellers, it’s hardly chocolate boxes and walks through the park. If you’re going to shack-up in NYC for Valentine’s Day with your honey, check out these local staples that could woo even the hardest of hearts.

To redeem yourself the cheese-points you earned seeing Avatar, grab your lover and check out a flick at The Paris. This hidden gem of a theatre is known for the classic appeal of its one (one!) auditorium, balcony seating, and minimal commercial interruption. Snuggle-up under the big screen for an intimate morning.

After the movie, indulge in a little knowledge seeking. Shakespeare & Co Booksellers, a city favorite by leaps and bounds, is a great place to flip through some pages and get to know each other. Slip into the Broadway locations basement for a little alone time, as the main floor is full of local’s morning, noon, and night.

If your hungry for a little more than knowledge after your long morning, head down to Chelsea Market where spectacular view of High Line Park are not the only noms available. If your sweetie’s got a sweet tooth, you couldn’t be in a better place. From Eleni’s hand painted cookies to Jacques Torres chocolate truffles to the absolutely amazing Italian dessert stylings of L’Arte de Gelato, you’ll satisfy that craving here.

For an allure of a different kind, Union Square’s Fresh has got you covered. Test different fragrance concoctions on each other and take turns sniffing for the perfect one. The scents here come for both men and women and range from Fig Apricot to Sake and Rice.

Sit down for a sexy dinner after all that sniffing. Artisanal Bistro, with decadent plates of fruits and cheeses, is a lovers dream. If you dare, try their Valentine’s Menu with a 3-course prix-fixe of oysters, foie gras, and fondue. Or, try their Restaurant Week offers through February for a cheese, meat, fruit, and dessert menu to-die-for.

If you’re celebrating your love on a Friday night, the Rubin Museum has a fantastic jazz lounge, the K2 that mixes the Art of the Himalayas with cool standards and cooler drinks. Or, end the night with some serious snuggle time at the Black Bear where a roaring fireplace, old-school video games, and a stocked bar are more mountain ski lodge and less Midtown East.

    Watching Avatar earns cheese points?

I learn so much here. (Is it blue cheese?)

Is it ok if I wish to post this data on one in all my very own blogs? I assume my readers would appreciate the info.
