Some time ago I shared a recipe for New Orleans style Beignets, a traditional French Quarter dish that you can make at home. With just a few hours to go till Fat Tuesday, I wanted to share a few places to celebrate with some other NoLA food options.

1. Creole. 2167 Third Avenue.
Menu Picks: Louisiana Crab Cakes, Creole Vegetarian Meatloaf, Coconut Rice and Collared Greens.
Notable: Stop in on Sundays for their Jazz Brunch.

2. Delta Grill. 700 9th Avenue.
Menu Picks: Pork Chops Etouffee, Chicken Fried Steak, Catfish Lafitte.
Notable: For a $20 door charge you can join the Mardi Gras celebration which includes one free Hurricane, New Orleans signature drink.

3. Bayou. 1072 Bay Street, Staten Island.
Menu Picks: Grilled Alligator Sausage, Seafood Jambalaya, Fried Catfish Fingers.
Notable: Bayou is unparalleled in it’s authentic cuisine and atmosphere- Stop by on Mondays for a complimentary Tarot Card reading, Tuesdays for live blues, and Wednesdays for live jazz.

4. Sylvia’s. 328 Lenox Avenue.
Menu Picks: Chicken and Waffles, Specialty Collared Greens.
Notable: No Southern cuisine expedition is complete without a stop at the Queen of Soul Food. Pick up a bag of fry mix to take home.

5. Two Boots Brooklyn. 514 2nd Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Menu Picks: Kingfish Po’ boy, Zydeco Meatloaf, Cajun Pizza.
Notable: Their no-cover Mardi Gras bash begins at 9. Don a mask or costume for one free Hurricane.
