I love gifts! I love giving and receiving. I love ripping open wrapping paper and wrapping wrapping paper. Most of all, I love the hunt for the perfect gift- but not everyone else likes searching for the “it gift” and I get that. So, I’ve been making notes just for you, the shopping impaired. Any time a cool travel related gift became available- I saved it, bookmarked it, Tumbl’ed it. And below, you can find my top favs. If you know a traveler, you might wanna consider the creme de la creme, these Traveling Anna approved gifts for the 2009 holiday season.
- For the constant traveler, sound is an enormous worry. These Bose noise cancelling headphones break the bank at $350, but the endless hours of in-flight or on-train sleep are priceless! www.bose.com
- Books and magazines are great traveling and in-room entertainment, but weigh so much to lug around. Instead, try a reader, like this one from Sony. It’s lightweight and you can either buy books via Google checkout, or “rent” from a virtual library. www.sony.com
- This Banana Republic Wrap Scarf may seem pricey at just under $40, but it works double time! It’s a handy wrap for icy plane rides, and once you arrive, a double wrap around the neck will transform any tshirt into a chic outfit. www.bananarepublic.com
- Combat grimy flights with this travel sized Bliss Spa pack. Contains Lemon + Sage soap, facewash, shampoo & more. Sephora.com
- These lightweight microfleece n.a.p. travel sox are great for passing through airport security. $10 at Brookstone.
- This Flight 001 wallet will set you back around $40- a small price to pay to any traveler who has misplaced important documents! www.flight001.com
- Guide books can be helpful- but can also mark you for pickpockets and other unsavory shenanigans. Not For Tourist Guides are sleek and will help you stay on course and incognito. www.notfortourists.com
- Verizon’s new wave of mini netbooks are 11″ and under, and easy to pack on a carry-on for instant access.
- This Barnes and Noble pick saves the Earth while you travel. Made of recycled and sustainable items, feel free to mark down all your travel notes and memories. www.barnesandnoble.com
- Nothing is worse than an uncomfy flight. Pack these lightweight pants by rolling them in your carry on. They’re cute enough to wear for sleep or around town! gap.com

I got my bf the Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones for Christmas, but now I want a pair of my own!
So much talk of ebook readers these days. While normally I object to them, Barnes & Noble’s new Nook does seem pretty awesome.
I wouldn’t object to a pair of Bose headsets, either.
Thanks for the netbook advice…. I thought only ATT had them. Bose noise canceling… no other way to travel!
I have a pair of Bose noise canceling headphones. They sound great and it’s completely stunning how much background noise they kill. However, the kicker is that they’re hard to sleep with on planes/trains. When I’m trying to sleep in a sitting position I tend to turn my head to one side or the other. But the headphones don’t let me turn my head sideways on to the headrest. It’s like a cruel trick that you finally can only hear your own music and relax, but can’t get comfy.
I still love them dearly though, don’t get me wrong. In the event of a water landing I’ll be saving my headphones before I save that seat kicking son of a bitch behind me.

When traveling, it's important to consider all types of accommodations. There are several European hostels whose resemblance is closer to a hotel than a hostel, or think about booking a room at an inn or timeshare rental where you always wanted to explore. You can often garner a resort vacation with none of the usual commitment or expense and in exquisite and exotic locations. Timeshare adventures run the gamut from beach front in Goa to Eco-resorts in the rainforest.
