Let’s Spot Food in New York City

During the TBEX NYC meetup with Andrew Zimmern last year, Lonely Planet’s Robert Reid chatted about the extreme correlation between food and travel. There may not be any better partnership that touches on adventure, fun and everything that’s great about life the way that food and travel do together. And one of my favorite iPhone apps, Foodspotting, is a great example of this, with users sharing tips, photos and favorite meals based on location. I’ve wanted to work with Foodspotting since the New York Social Media Roundtable, almost two years ago, and now I finally get my chance, thanks to Amy.

Foodspotting is going on the road with Bravo’s Top Chef to host Top Chef: The Tour live across the US! They’re making a few East Coast stops, including New York City, and I’m happy to announce that I’ll be guest judging one of the shows of this 20-city live tour.

Tickets are not required but the event is first-come, first serve, so come early! Colicchio & Sons – Sure, it’s expensive, but James Beard winner Tom Colicchio (no relation even though he shares a last name with my mom and grandparents) prepares a sick plate that is fresh, modern and cozy, and a meal experience you can’t miss.

Tea & Sympathy – The perfect place to savour a cup of tea or enjoy a whole pot and some adorable caked and jam while catching up with friends.

A Salt and Battery – A neighborhood fish & chips shop and right next door to Tea & Sympathy.

The Living Room – This restaurant at The Standard is just as cool and sleek as the hotel. Expect long waits and hip DJs inside.

Smorgas Chef – Skip Ikea and opt for Smorgas Chef’s meatballs instead. Think the Swedish Chef from the Muppets for fun, and one amazing plate of authentic food.
