Gritty, Sensual Rome Behind an iPhone
Dirty, fresh, sexy, yummy… there are many ways to describe Rome. The street has a raw feeling that could stand it’s own next to the world’s toughest cities, like New York and Hong Kong, but surprises you with random sprigs of beauty. A fountain here, a century old statue there.
On my 2010 trip to Rome I had to displeasure of having pneumonia; the effect of dragging a whooping cough to Paris during a rainy season. Because of this little issue, I left my camera, guide books, and maps at home. I grabbed my iPhone, loaded with Google maps and a humble little cam, and I hit the streets, wrapped in a peacoat, hood, and scarf. The ache in my body did nothing to stop the vibe of Rome from getting into my bones. Pizza, wine, graffiti, shopping in brown paper bags, churches, squares, and caverns made from the bones of the devoted, I love Rome.
