A Stay on Rome’s Porto Maggiore

On my first stay in the Eternal City, Rome, Italy, I had the unfortunate experience of being sick. Actually, very, very sick. Bronchitis and near Pneumonia ravaged me and the last thing I wanted to do was navigate myself through foreign city. That’s why I believe it was truly fate that my travel package landed me at the Donatello Hotel.
The Donatello was just a short 4 block walk from the A line train in Rome (the Manzoni station) and later I found out, just a few minutes by bus …

Finding Unique Gifts in Prague

Prague is not the first place most people look to when taking a European vacation. Between Paris, Rome, and London, there are so many Western European cities to consume the energy of Americans that we sometimes forget all of the beautiful history lying just slightly to the left. Because of that- or in spite of- it can be difficult to round-up a unique souvenir when visiting Eastern Europe. Case in point: Prague.
This beautiful, regal, funky Czech Republic capital makes for an amazing vacation. A great dollar to koruny ratio, plenty …

A Cup of Milk and Christmas at The Cookie Jar

Am I old fashioned? Maybe. But I just can’t help but smile at the idea of a nice big glass of milk and a few tasty cookies getting me through the night. Someone finally heard my prayers!
At The Cookie Jar, an adorable warehouse of treats in all shapes and sizes, you can sit down at a table alone, with the fam, or with a loved one, get a cup of milk, and choose two cookies to dip, dunk, and slurp into your belly. Of the dozens and dozens made fresh …

NYC Holiday Markets

It seems like every year the Holidays sneak up on me. My first realization that this week is Thanksgiving was when my boss told me I had off for two days. In the middle of rejoicing for a four day weekend I soon remembered how many gifts I had to figure out and started scrambling for ideas. Being that I’m a bit of a diy fanatic, shopping at the normal department stores may get the job done, but it never quite feels like anything has a personal …

Traveling the Silk Road at AMNH

After my last post about AMNH, they were nice enough to send me some info on a few upcoming events. One that really caught my eye was Traveling the Silk Road, a brand-new exhibit detailing the “greatest traderoute of ancient times.”
This exhibit will be featuring live silkworms, camel models, star trackers, and market replica- and I’ll be live microblogging it today via Tumblr and Twitter.
While I’m an enormous NYC museum lover and am simply thrilled to enjoy this exhibit, I’m also ecstatic because I’ve always been fascinated with history. Whenever …
